TV personality

If you could be friends IRL with a TV or movie personality/celebrity, who would it be and why?

What do you admire about this person?

Do you think you could be more like this person, or do you want your spouse to be like this person?

I would like to be friends with Ina Garten (The Barefoot Contessa from the Food Network).  I admire her a lot--she's beautiful, well-read, has a fabulously interesting past (she used to write policy for the White House, she's lived all over the world, it's crazy!), and she cooks food that I would like to eat.

One trait of hers I would *love* to develop is how when people come to her house, it's clean and inviting.  She frequently has friends over just for a drink or dinner and they just light up when she lets them in the door.  I know that might be because they're on TV, but I think a large part of it is Ina's ability to make the person feel welcome and wanted.

My husband doesn't put *any* pressure on me to be any certain way except for happy (my mood tends to set the mood of the home), but the times when he has come home and I've had dinner ready and the house warm, clean, and cozy...it's like I can almost see the frustrations of work slide off his back when he steps in the door.  His whole outlook on life seems to change when he comes home to a happy house, good food, and a relaxed wife.  I wish I could be like that more than once every few months.

LOTTERY (just a thought)

so if YOU randomly bought the winning lotto ticket, lets say 5 million dollars and your husband was not with you nor did he offer any of the winning numbers...would it be considered YOUR money, or BOTH your money...would you decide together how to spend the money? If HIS friends and family started asking for money how would you react? If YOUR family and friends started asking for money how would you react? do you think winning the lotto could cause issues in your relationships with other ppl (including your husband and family)? just a random thought...

Almost one year!

Hubby and I are celebrating our 1st anniversary this Sunday. I can't believe that on August 5th we will have been married for 1 whole year. So we have 1 week left to be newlyweds. We are having a party with some close friends to celebrate. I am so excited.

house hold chores

hi! im new to live journal and basically i joined because im a stay at home mom, im bored, and i need a place to kind of be able to get my thoughts out.  my husband and i just married in october 16 of 2006 and had our first child born april 23, 2007.  i guess i should say the honey moon is already over.  its hard because my husband is a US Marine and he is ALWAYS working.  his job is a recruiter and its very demanding and always has him on edge.  it sucks because im staying at home and i feel like although i know that i need to take responsibility of most of the upkeep of the house...i feel like i should still be able to ask my husband to do the dishes every once in a while and expect him to take out the trash without him giving me grief.  i dont know what to do.  should i be doing all the work?  i really want to know if im expecting to much...

My name

(no subject)

Hi! I'm a new member. I got married on March 25, 2006 and we dated several years before that. We've done the typical newlywed thing and moved across the country shortly after our honeymoon. Then we bought a condo around our 1 year anniversary. It has been busy! But we're very happy. We did couple's counseling before we got married (not as a pre-marital thing, more as a "if we don't fix this we should just break-up" thing). It was great and I am a HUGE advocate. We used the book "Fighting for Your Marriage" with our therapist and it was great.
Nice to meet everyone!

newbie post!

sorry -- i'm not a super newbie but i forgot to add this com. to my friends list when i joined so i'm just now speaking up!

Name: Ashley

Age: 29

Location: Chicago

Wedding Date: 10/28/00

First marriage?: yup, for both of us

Kids?: kori (girl, age 7) and bennett (boy, age 5) . . . plus a bun in the oven that i think we're going to name brendan jeffrey, due on july 24th. wow, i think that's the first time i've seen the name in print.

Best part about being married: always having a buddy around . . . which is also sometimes hard, since i need some alone time! ;)

Trials in your marriage you'd like to share: well, i could write about this stuff for hours . . . i'll probably leave it for more specific posts that deal with some of the stuff we've gone through. i will say that we had a very rocky marriage for a number of years but that things have really turned around for us and we are now very happy. our issues definitely caused us to mature and become better people. for anyone that might be suffering in their marriage, i just want you to know -- there is hope!

When, oh when?

At what point in your marriage/relationship did ex's STOP contacting you or your hubby?

This seems neverending! It's never emails or texts or phone calls saying "hey, let's get back together" but the "I just wanted to say hi and see how you are doing" crap never seems to end!!! It's CONSTANT! If it's not someone on my side, it's on his! Some of these people have even been told that we don't really feel it's appropriate to maintain a friendship with them now that we're married.

I mean seriously!

Name: Rachel
Age: I'll be 24 on April 6th
Location: Santee, the sweaty feet of California
Wedding Date: Valentine's Day 2003
First marriage?: First for me and second for him (hopefully the last for both, unless one of us dies)
Kids?: Erik Benjamin was born November 16th, 2005. Tristan Michael or Kimberly Michelle is due May 1, 2007 (we are hoping for a girl though)
Best part about being married: Being with my best friend 24/7 and having someone to scrub my back in the shower
Trials in your marriage you'd like to share: We have had some major problems, like grounds for termination problems, but we worked them out and our marriage is much stronger for it. It may sound nuts but we would not be as happy or as strong as we are without everything that happened, good and bad.
